to be fair theres multiple weird ways that hmrc say you've underpaid workers

one example:

Employee works for a month but fails probation. he's paid £13 an hour so above minimum wage. If you were to deduct the cost of his first aid course off his final pay packet as he failed probation then that would put him under NMW and so you cant (even if it's in his contract). So there's probably a lot of quirks like that that build up in large businesses like NCFC where they havent acted within the rules even though they thought they were paying NMW.
