FWIW I have talked about this before in regards to betting.

When an unpopular manager is sacked, betting on the team for the next few games is often an incredible spot, mainly because everyone thinks the team is s**t and in freefall.

You will get inflated odds and value due to sentiment.

Its the same with the stock market.

Every time there has been a major panic sell off (dot com bubble, 911, 2008 GFC ect ect) everyone holding their nose and nerve absolutely crushed it because of perception.
