Sinatra starred in a film adaptation of Roderick Thorpe’s book ‘The Detective’ and was therefore contractually obliged to be offered a role in the adaptation of its sequel, ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’, on which Die Hard is loosely based. Despite being 70 years old, the part had to be offered to him first but, thankfully, he declined it so that Willis could be offered the role instead.
