I’d imagine the “data work” is done by poorly paid youngsters.

Knapper will just be implementing the process, the data points he wants collecting and input on the algorithms to identify what he’s interested in and managing that team. I doubt he does the numbers himself.

You’d like to think that the data would simply indicate players to focus attention on, and then send scouts to actually watch them and learn about them as people. Unfortunately it feels at least that part isn’t happening.
