"Port Vale" doesn’t come from a building at all.

The most accepted theory is that the club took its name from the port vale house, where the team first played in the 1870s. The “vale” refers to the valley of ports along the trent and mersey canal.

unlike crystal palace, which was directly named after the famous glass exhibition hall, port vale’s name is tied to a house and location, not just the building.
