One of the biggest problems in the UK is the high housing costs

By allowing housing to become financialised we now have higher housing costs than many other comparable economies. So far more of our money goes into paying interest and rent to landlords. That means less money for everything else. It also means that a huge amount of 'wealth' is locked away in unproductive housing.
