It'll be like agricultural workers

Stop them coming in, oops no-one is willing to do the work for what it pays, best get some to come in to do it then, as you were.

Social care is properly f**ked, imho, and no affordable fixes available. I don't know what the answer is, but I think the decision to state so clearly that the usual levers of taxation will never be pulled and then not to use the obviously-changed world as part of a narrative to row back from that, is a huge error which will bite them on the arse.

It may be that they try to/are forced to do it later on, but the Tories are the weakest they're likely to be while KB is still in post (as before I think she'll get turfed out after the next set of locals which will also be awful for the Tories) because she is so ineffective. The later they leave it before doing it the harder it will be, and if they don't do it at all they are going to struggle to achieve anything much domestically.

Labour could also do with not trying to "meet Reform voters where they are" but instead painting a positive vision of an alternative future and get on with implementing it. People need to feel a little bit better off, with services which don't feel quite so broken - dentists, GP appointments, potholes, etc - and that's probably all they really need to achieve. They'll never out-Reform Reform and they shouldn't try; rather, work on the anger and disaffection driving Reform voters.

It was enough to not be the Tories to win the last election. Next time around that won't cut it, there needs to be a vision and a tangible sense of progress. I'm still not getting a strong sense of direction or purpose from this government.
