Little old Norwich need to grow the club!

Rarely post on here but couldn’t read some of the rubbish below without responding.

The original post is about potential new investment being used to fund a new stand so the argument about interest payments potentially goes out of the window, although admittedly it would need to be a significant investment to fund it fully.

As one or two others have said if we’re going to become more competitive, particularly without significant ongoing investment, it’s crucial to grow the club and increase income streams. Building a new stand would be a big step in the right direction with this and I’d argue it’s actually not just about standard ticket sales at all. I think in fact Stuart Webber refers in one of his interviews to corporate tickets being sold out and the club needing better options in this regard. That’s where the big money is. Also the club need facilities at Carrow Road that can be used every day of the week not just every other Saturday and again a new stand opens up possibilities in that regard too.

Finally on the point of ‘We’re only little old Norwich, we’re not big enough to have more seats’ just look at the average attendances before the new South Stand was built. They were well below the stadium capacity at the time. As others have mentioned people want a guaranteed seat for the season with a good view. Likewise if they’re coming to matches causally they want to be able to sit with friends and not have pillars in the way. Yes there were empty seats last season but given where they were I’d say they were mainly season ticket holders choosing not to attend and restricted or impaired views.

Yes, we need a big squad rebuild this summer but going forwards I’d much rather see any additional investment that comes in to the club being spent on infrastructure that will leave a lasting legacy than the next batch of Rashicas, Tzolis’s and Sargents.
