It was clear that we were going nowhere this season

so he left in January. There was no point in him waiting to the end of the season for his move and he had a chance of going to the world cup by moving in January. I don't hold anything against him for that. Plus staying with a team that is peforming badly and not giving him the chances he needs to score is hardly doing him any favours for his chances of getting a move in the summer. Maybe there wouldn't be many good offers from the premiership if he had stayed to the end of the season and not scored that many goals.
