Why sack Smith now and not play out the season and spend the next 6 months arranging the succession?

Re contract, it all comes down to money and how much of a pay off managers want to secure. After Schalke I doubt Wagner would want to be saddled with being at a financially weak club if we don’t go up so I’d have thought you could agree a figure in how much he’d want to be paid for coming in to try to get us up and walking if he can’t, how much of a bonus he’d want for getting us up, etc etc.

And if we can’t agree that sort of arrangement with someone out of work, maybe we *do* need to be looking at a long term rebuild now instead, and writing off promotion this year.
