I think you're probably reading far too much into it.

Farke was not open to a set piece coach when SW suggested.

Dean Smith is open to stuff like that and had previously worked with one at Villa but he stayed so Webber found him one and its Allan Russell.

I'm not sure that the correction means anything particularly deep, he's just saying he wasn't brought in as part of the team and doesn't have a long close relationship with Smith but without trying to sound too mercenary.
