Not wanting to get into an argument here. I’m genuinely confused. Can you explain? So

Are you saying that if somebody grows up in a council estate or what you would consider to be working class then they are allowed to legitimately have socialist values and beliefs, but if somebody grew up that way and “did well for themselves” they then become automatically middle class and therefore no longer permitted to retain their values and beliefs?

I know a lot of people I would call champagne socialists but they grew up comfortably middle class, often went to good universities, have well paid jobs and in some cases constantly avoid tax wherever possible, while pretending to be a socialist. The socialism ends the second their bonuses are capped for example.

But I do struggle with the notion that somebody isn’t allowed to earlier experiences form in them the opinion that they don’t want more families to have to go through what they did when they were younger, just because they’ve (at least financially) been lucky enough to escape it themselves.

What are they meant to do? Instantly turn into a blue flag waving Tory, or quit their job for a minimum wage one in order to recalibrate their opinion?
