A 4-0 win is unlikely, but you know my point, it’s a deeper issue than beating Luton is going to solve. To turn things around, the supporters need to see a sustained run of consistent, high(er) quality performances. Even if we did win 4-0 though, that’s not going to cause doubts over whether Smith is the right man for the job to evaporate. It’s one match and totally meaningless if we then get smashed by Sheff United.

Personally, I don’t think we will up the quality of performances over a sustained period. I think we’ll continue to bumble along, picking up a decent points haul, but not looking totally convincing. As I look at the squad, I don’t see who the players are that would be able to elevate us to that next level.

And for what it’s worth, I doubt that anyone who explained away the average performances and focused on the points haul is surprised by this recent run either.
