It won’t bankrupt the country if it’s an interim measure. You can’t just generate all your energy from other sources overnight.

I completely agree we need to switch to other sources and be more efficient and we need to fast track that. But imagine the abuse/outcry there would be if they just let bills keep rising (because they will and people can’t afford it snd businesses will go to the wall) and people start to die because they can’t afford to heat their house. Including no doubt from some on here slagging off the expected proposal.

I was reading the other day of a small pub whose electricity bill is going up from
£14k a year to an estimated £65k. There will be no such businesses left unless they take temporary measures to stop the rises.
