The first premiership season, the club quiet rightly didn’t gamble on trying to stay up, playing the long game and we came down. We stuck to our principles in terms of our playing style, the players weren’t up to it and we got relegated. It’s worth acknowledging that we had a ridiculous run of injuries in the early part of that season, but I don’t think it made any difference.

Last season we tried to right the wrongs with our recruitment in preparation for promotion, got Emi to stay when he didn’t want to and absolutely pissed it. Arguably our best ever promotion. Playing the best football in my lifetime (I can go back to Ken Brown) albeit in the championship.

This season he’s f**ked up. Maybe that’s down to not having enough money. Personally I think we signed too many players and could have signed more quality and kept others, Vrancic and Onel spring to mind.

Yes he made some silly comments, especially when taken out of context, and his choice of language has been poor at times.

Maybe, the owners are giving him so much control because they trust him. They look at the improvements of the training ground, the appointment of Farke and Dean Smith, the players he’s brought in for f**k all, the fact we’re in good shape for next season etc etc. I don’t think climbing a mountain, having one bad season and saying some silly things out weighs the negatives and is a stick to beat him with personally.
