Eek. I’d have a go claiming on the policy anyway

The blurb is unclear but if they have had the same policy for years and it’s been auto-renewing (rather than just buying a separate policy each time from the same insurer) then the exclusion could be an unfair term if it wasn’t clearly brought to their attention at the renewals.

Given the sums, it’s worth trying to find a specialist consumer rights solicitor to get a proper view. Do they have legal expenses cover on their home/car insurance?
