We punch massively above our weight. Which is not to say we should be content with persistent failure in the premiere league, but short of that 3rd place in the inaugural season our highest finish is 11th (playing pretty s**t football under Hughton, wasn't it?) and our longest stay is only 3 years. Surprising some of the "big" clubs who've had fewer seasons in the prem than us in the last 30 years...
