There, will lose thousands of troops in the process, will see his countries economy collapse completely, become a complete pariah and probably eventually will be forced out by a disgruntled public.

Think he has screwed up big time snd misjudged it.

But yes, short term he has the resources to take the country and will no doubt feel he has to.
