It all went horribly wrong at the start it seems to me, but the players who relied on Emi to produce their best have looked weakened and out of their depth.

We don't play the quick passing game anymore. I can't see how Todd would ever fit into a Deansmith midfield (in fact, how is Gilmour going to get back in?) So it seems a tad harsh to blame Todd for being entirely responsible for squandering his value (though I can see, he should take some of the blame)
