It all seems a bit unfair without knowing the full facts.

From what I can see there is one accusation by a head teacher that he said the following

"The headteacher told the FA: “Bates was enraged and threatened to take legal action if I persisted with what he called malicious gossip.”

We have no idea what Bates knew when he said this.
He could have just been defending a colleague who he genuinely thought was innocent at the time.

Is there any evidence that he 100% knew what was going on and covered it up?

If so, then that's a totally different scenario.
