I've thought for ages

that a lot of sledging in cricket should be penalised - some of it is completely appalling - and as long as it doesn't fall within one of the completely protected categories, they get away with it - powers could be given to umpires eg to "book" or even sin bin a player. if players freely abuse one another, why should crowd members be treated differently, or act differently? Again, this is one of those areas in which i think commentators are a bit pathetic & mealy mouthed (like not calling diving, cheating) - effectively they encourage it - and then (I've experienced this) young children playing the game (10-11 year olds) surprise surprise, do exactly the same thing
