As you say, seems a bit jarring.

That said, it's been feeling increasingly weird that footballers/cricketers /rugby players are fair game for random, often quite vitriolic, abuse from spectators.

I'd be pretty disgruntled if somebody came into my workplace and started doing the same at me.

And there's loads of sports in which you'd get ejected for doing the same (tennis, most racquet sports, snooker).

So, if the end state is that hurling abuse at players gets stamped out, can't say I'd be disappointed.
