Yeah but, no but

Most Danish league football is played in front of a few thousand - even FCK & Brondby only fill their stadiums when they play each other. The standard is pretty low outside of the top two or three clubs; apart from FCK & Brondby, they would be decent or worse fizzy teams - FCK & Brondby would struggle in the Prem, although one or both might just avoid relegation. Wages are low as well - the best players are only on a few thousand at best - the majority a lot, lot less. It's no surprise that nearly all current internationals play abroad.

I agree that returning to his homeland to play out an easy season or two before retiring is probably an attraction, but I can't see him going back to Denmark while he's contracted to Norwich (or any other club), simply because it'd be too expensive. The Prem, Italy and Spain are out, so I can really only see a middling German club taking him on - the Schalke suggestion earlier is an interesting one, but as they are a top German club, I can't see them taking a risk on a 34 year old - they've got enough money (huge crowds & reasonable success) and are attractive enough to be able to get younger players.

Personally I'd like to see him stay to mentor the likes of Shackell and any other young/mid-20s defenders Worthy might bring in. He didn't have an awful lot to do defensively last night, but overlapped well and supplied a pin-point cross for Denmark's third. Still a quality player - but perhaps only for another year
