I think I'm being pretty unbiased.

The thrash metal stuff was very niche before they went all poppy and mainstream.
For how long they have been around they have not done that much if you look at their total body of work.

They are a good band but I have heard people saying they are one of the best ever.

As regards the Beatles, they could fill multiple Albums with songs that everyone know..... Metallica could barely fill one side...

I have been to concerts from Artists like Bad Company who miss out popular songs from their playlists because they cant fit them all in.
Bands like Bad Company never ever get mentioned yet IMHO their body of work is much better.

Def Leppard is a band who followed a similar path in that they started out with a harder edge but went all MTV/poppy to get huge success. Hysteria was their Black Album.
