What good would killing him do?

It would save the cost of keeping him alive for 40 years, spend the money on sick children instead. And it might have a deterrent effect. So those would be utilitarian arguments.

It would symbolise a societal revulsion at his actions and so would have totemic power. A sort of Kantian revenge argument.
