It’s a mess
Batting just not good enough and lack of recent red ball cricket means next to no players in form they could call on. Hameed, Bairstow, Root and Ali worth places for different reasons (Hameed mainly because he’s just been recalled so not had time to prove himself either way), rest of the batters not so much - Burns out of form, Sibley just not good enough as it stands. Buttler I’m not convinced by as a test batter or keeper but doubt they’ll drop him. Bowling a bit hit and miss - Jimmy and Robinson have done quite well, Sam Curran had a bit of a mare in this game. We have no idea what our best team is and are running out of time before the Ashes, let alone being able to do enough to save this series.
