It staggers me that that kind of wrong-headedness persists in the game

I'm not surprised that Webber talks about wanting to make our already-excellent academy literally the best in the country. I am surprised that that is actually an achievable goal (and it is). It feels so obvious that investing in youth infrastructure is such a core part of sustainability in modern football that I can't understand why so many other clubs don't see it that way. I'm quite glad they don't, mind, as we get significant benefit from what we've done already and we feel lightyears ahead of many peer clubs, and bigger-than-peer clubs too.
