I had dinner with him and 6-7 others once in relation to a very small charity I did stuff with as part of my job at the time. He was intelligent, witty, knowledgeable about the territories (mostly in Africa) that we worked in and full of suggestions as to links we might make with other people on the ground there. He was in his eighties at the time.
