and his actual name was Charlie and the actual nickname for the role was tail-end Charlie which provided hours and hours and hours of solid British Merriment, reportedly.
You had a 95% chance of surviving a raid. Which sounds great odds until you realise that a tour was twenty raids. So statistically your chances of making it through a tour were...ungreat. Like many, he did a few tours.
