Absolutely. But we know exactly what that way is (because we can see it in lots of
other countries). It means three things:
(1) Getting the number of new cases down to a very low level;
(2) Simultaneously, building a track & trace system so you can identify new outbreaks quickly once you've got to that low level;
(3) Supporting people that you identify via (2) to isolate, so that they don't infect lots of other people.
We did part (1) in the late spring / early summer, but we chose not to do (2). So we lost control again, and had to have another lockdown to go through (1) all over again.
*Hopefully* we've learnt from that, and are building (2) this time.
The worrying thing is that we haven't done anything about (3) yet, which is fairly bizarre. Without that we'll have to go through (1) all over again when we open up, even if we have done (2) this time. But hopefully we will do (3) in time. We've got a few weeks.
