That players we could afford would in no way be a certain upgrade on what we already have. It would also risk damaging the morale of the young potential which got us there.

To realistically give ourselves a shot will cost 60-70 million *at least *

Plus put us at risk of having a lot of expensive deadwood if it (still reasonably) goes wrong.

With the benefit of hindsight...

We needed to buy experience and reliability at CB, a better DFM (although amadou was a reasonable punt on paper) and someone to challenge stiepi for his place /role (not cheap)

There are very few teams who could cope with having almost all their centre backs out for months on end. As has been discussed ad nauseum, the injuries seem to be inflicted in play (thus not our fault).

Or entirely our fault, if that appeals more to what you think should happen next.
