Lolzaloopa,

In the next village to me there is a beautiful little cottage that was owned by a lovely old lady that was always out tending her garden. Proper old English cottage garden it always looked beautiful. She died age 93 last year and the parish rag ran a lovely piece on her saying she was a community stalwart and you would often hear her shouting at the telly during horse races willing her charge across the line as she loved a little gamble.

The cottage lay empty for a year or so and i kinda missed seeing her out in her garden in her straw hat tending her garden. then a new couple moved in with their fancy cars and it felt a bit not right if you know what i mean but c'est la vie as they say in the republic of ireland.

Then one day, i driv past and they had done something really beautiful, they had replaced the lovely little handpainted wooden sign the old lady had hanging from a wrought iron stand that was tattered and weather beaten with a brand new exact pristine replica. It was to me a mark of respect to the old lady and the property, these were good folks.

During the lockdown the feller has been out and re-pointed one entire side of the house in lime mortar and I just love that, love that he is caring for that house and respecting the history of it and the old lady, so in a way it is like stepping back into the past with the bonus that that feller has made the world a better place (to me at least) and i would like to think that the little 93 year old lady is looking down and approving too.
