Right up there for me too

Watching him close up in county cricket at Northlands Road, it was amazing how much acceleration he got off a short run up.

I remember a county match at Lords (I worked across the park and would go from lunchtime if Hampshire were in town). He was out for 99, batting at 6, and the only person celebrating was the bowler (Gus Fraser), the rest of the Middlesex team were disappointed he didn't get his hundred as were most of the (fairly small) crowd.

I used to love taking a half day and watching matches from the lower section of the old grandstand.
