how costly is it to take someone to the small claims court?

assuming such a monster exists that is? someone done some work for me to the tune of 491 pounds and an array of pences and it's: a) "not fit for purpose" and c) "not of satisfactory quality". i know i've certain rights under the consumer rights act 2015 and i have written to the trumpet iinvolved requesting a full refund within 14 day but he hent responded. woman at the citizends advice bureau said it could go to a independent dispute resolution agency if the firm was part of one but i don't think they are (nothing on their website) so is my next course of action to take a trip up to the old judge rinders so to speak.
