I havenlt said any different and am not seeking to make excuses for him, my point was

merely that I don't think people should be prevented from standing for public office or hounded from their jobs (as seems to happen here) or as is sometimes the case have their lives destroyed on the basis of the fact they have said something stupid or clumsy in the past.

I don;t know the guy, he might be a complete t**t for all I know but he, like a few people, has probably had this aspiration to stand to be an MP for a long time and I can't help but feel a little bit of sympathy for the fact that it seems likely he will have it taken away from him because of something stupid he said on his radio show a few years ago.

Just like I felt a bit sorry for Danny Baker when he had to quite his radio show over posting that stupid/thoughtless tweet after Harry and Meghan's baby was born particularly as it was so out of character.

I don;t believe that making a stupid or thoughtless comment that is offensive renders you a bad person who should automatically be punished for ever more, just as I generally (i'd make an exception for certain types of crime) believe the purpose of the criminal justice system is as much to rehabilitate as to punish.

I would be interested to know if Conrad could ever do anything to persuade the lynch mob to change their mind but I suspect its too late for him now as a tory candidate because their campaign has started so badly they will no doubt pull the plug on him quickly to avoid any further scandal.
