If its questionable though they I think they have to stick with the guy at the game

Theres pros and cons for the monitor by the side of the pitch; in terms of this game, I agree that the ref may have changed his mind had that been how VAR was operating. The thing I would say against it though is that in rugby (union & league) and cricket where tech works well it is an additional ref / umpire that looks at the replays etc rather than the infield guy...makes sense therefore that football would follow suit.
