If VAR applies the existing rules correctly, as I think it did, then it has worked

The issue is then with the rules themselves (see Vettel's penalty in Canada as a similar example in another *sport*) or the rules which VAR is being used to apply.

Not sure what the difference is between VAR judging an offside by a couple of inches or a GK being a couple of inches off the line at a pen, however (unsurprisingly given it is still relatively early in its use) the relevant authorities have not yet struck the right balance it seems.
