I reckon

Two forwards (Rhodes plus someone different style wise)

A defensive midfielder (youngish challenge for tettey trybull - loan out Thompson to get some games)

One or two rightbacks depending on if we keep aarons.

A young goalkeeper ala Angus Gunn.

Strikers are my main concern. But definitely need someone who is a good fit for the tactics, ethics and wage structure.

Suspect that this will mean that whoever we get will be a mystery (unknown) and will need some patience.

Unknowns and patience will be the watchwords for any strengthening tbh as I'm not sure we have the budget to buy in anyone who will instantly (and instantly is the key point) improve the current squad as much of our quality comes from the familiarity of the group.

Happy to stick with this plan tbh.
