Expectations

I was thinking about the whole Todd thing and the fact that a lot of it is linked back to expectations.

There is no doubt that the team have massively exceeded expectations, over the season as a whole and in many individual matches. But then two things seem to happen. The first this is that doesn’t give them any ‘credit’ when performances are below expectation. And secondly it just increases future expectations.

So, we have the situation where people have been criticising the team for not meeting expectations and beating Reading and Wigan. Despite the fact that they are desperately fighting relegation and it would mean winning a record breaking 10 games in a row and putting promotion to bed with 5 or 6 games to go. At the start of the season this would have been an absurd expectation, but it is now a reasonable position to take. This is probably why the players may feel bemused - that they have done so well over the course of the season but for some fans it is still not enough.
