Whilst you are to some extent correct, all death is extremely sad

it is entirely natural that people will be more "invested" in a death involving someone they can in some way relate to/feel connection with. For example, the young children who got the applause before Leeds, they are no more special than the 1000s of other young children dying every day, but they supported our football clubs.

I too had never heard of Sala, but it's a football story and we all follow football and have association with Cardiff for decades. Of cpurse it's going to get alot more attention than a pilot from Essex.
