Liverpool could finish only a couple of points behind Everton, despite having played 17 games more across the season, reaching two finals and seeing off the cream of Europe to lift the most important club trophy in the world.

I don't really think the word 'marathon' should be applied to Everton!

As for injuries, Liverpool have had appalling misfortune and also, any team that enjoys success also enjoys good fortune. Everton will have had it in spades this season.

Particularly given that they are actually pretty s**t.

As I said, Everton should qualify because the rules state this.

I just happen to believe that Liverpool's achievements in a 58 games season would be infinitely better.
