I think it might unite the nation and it has to happen
the slim majority and the doubt about what it meant at the time has meant that no one is really sure of exactly what the mandate is other than "leave the EU".
Imagine if there's a more solid leave vote, then I think most remainers would feel they should accept it and get on board. If there's a similarly solid remain vote then at least that means we can put it off until some actual feasible proposal is made and then revisit it in a few years
