Jesus didn't drink apparently . The whole thing about wine was because he had to. (I heard this while attending a southern baptist ceremony with some ex inlaws).

For a country that separates church and state, there are an awful lot of places where the church has a massive influence on the state.

Louisiana has a strong Roman Catholic history, so their attitude is a lot more free because then you can just go and ask forgiveness afterwards. The Baptists in Mississippi and most of the surrounding states think that drinking = off to hell you go.
