We'd be in the EU until we agree a trade deal, having lost pretty much all political influence within the institutions, no ability to prepare trade deals

vs

we retain the bulk of the benefits of the EU until we agree an EU trade deal, at the expense of any political influence, but we can start prepping third party trade deals (and applying some)

Hard to see how either option is overwhelmingly better than the other.
