That was something I thought when Chapelfield opened, to a certain

extent it helped keep norwich centre as a shopping destination. You’ve only got to look at Meadowhalls, Metro Centre, BlueWater,Lakeside to see the effect of our of town shopping centres has on city centres. But shopping habits have changed so much now with the internet, I can’t see how HoF,Debenhams are really relevant anymore. Our strength is in our small flexible size as an independent. When Chapelfield opened it had a huge impact on the indies and thus gave many of the indies the impetus to form the Norwich Lanes idea to help remind locals of our offer. I’ve worked in castle mall and had colleagues work in Chapelfield and i know that the general customer for both centres rarely venture as far as the independent shops.
