A lot more complicated than that
For starters, don’t expect the dems to coalesce round a platform until a candidate for 2020 emerges - a process that starts once the midterms are out of the way. That doesn’t mean to say they were only out campaigning as anti-trump. For some reason I get a lot of spam from democratic lobby groups, and whilst obvs anti-trump, issues they focussed on included: healthcare (especially cover for pre-existing conditions), dreamers, gun reform, protecting women’s right to choose - if anything, too many issues. Also you should consider local state and district issues which featured on the ground but don’t register too much on reporting here, especially around ‘re-distracting’ , ‘off-rolling’ and other GOP gerrymandering.
To say Trump has delivered on his promises is equally misleading, and again more complicated especially once you consider that many economic indicators are time lagged. Sure he has done some of the things he said he would do, but he’s a serial liar and a narcissistic braggard who is happy to base campaigns on “a continuous appeal to the inner swine in human beings” (Kurt Schumacher). The person Schumacher was referring to also enjoyed democratic election success, and enjoyed a lot of popularity through economic successes ...... and went on to lock him up.
As for the notion of a ‘centre alternative’ - how about someone who picks up the economic bill of rights that that well known revolutionary, Roosevelt, was advocating in 1944 (see User Posted Link ) - for an elected Democratic President, it looks to be something Corbyn is closer to than Blair or May.
