The Breakfast Club). I remember watching Barry Norman's review of it on Film 78. He pretty much panned it saying that the message for young girls was terrible. The only way for Sandy to have a happy ending and get her guy, was for her to completely change who she was and become a sexualised version of herself.

I was really annoyed by this review. I thought Barry Norman was being old-fashioned and fuddy-duddy and anyway Danny also changed him self at the end because he wore a cardi to try and get Sandy.

Years later though, when I went to see Grease on stage, I remembered this review. That version was completely about Sandy being wrong to be who she was and massive pressure on her throughout the show to change.it was an incredibly difficult watch. It didn't have any of the charm or silliness of the original film and a really scary message. The people I went with loved it though because of the songs.

It's interesting that you'd forgotten that scene from the BC. I think you're right - we become blind to things being the norm until you're made to stop and think about them.

(I ended up at University with Barry Norman's daughter by the way)
