Had the same think with both Escort and Sierra so will never buy Ford again

In both cases less than 120k miles on clock and required reconditioned engine or cyclinder head skim to fix. Both quoted under £1k all in to fix. One worked the other didn't and I ended up scrapping anyway. 4K sounds way over the top, maybe it was for a brand new warrantied engine??. My recommendation is walk away and scrap, its too hit and miss with Ford. Buy a VW based vehicle next time i.e. VW, Skoda, Seat.
