should be able to look at these cases, apply a bit of common sense and accept whatever evidence is available that these people have lived in the UK for years and years.

Seems to be very much the "computer says no" culture where people have lost the ability/desire to think for themselves but it perhaps also comes down to a culture of wanting to be seen to be tough on immigration,
