The story in the mail article linked turns is actually quite shocking in 2018. The guy has now been suspended by West Ham..... the Guardians report for those with a Mail allergy:

We all got a bit exercised about the Mail when the comment was actually drawing attention to something quite shocking, irrespective of the publishing source.
